The gospel in reference to Jesus is more than his death burial and resurrection. It’s about his birth and it’s purpose, his life, miracles he perform, his teaching, examples he set for us, his death, burial, resurrection, his going to heaven sitting at the right hand of God making intercessions for the saints. This is good news because we have a Redeemer.

However as an African American, the gospel must be proactive in that I am worthy of this favor so why should I let the government or group of people think they are favored anymore than me. I am blessed and highly favored because of Christ. It’s easy for you to say social justice can’t be part of a Black person experience in regard to this gospel. In fact we believe in the gospel even more without rights because the gospel made us worthy to know the truth about ourselves, if you understand what I mean.

I’m grateful that we can still find Truth posted on the Internet and encourage you to continue in the Truth.
It is so important to understand that salvation is a gift of God and that even our repentance is a work of His Spirit and not ours. It is also important to understand what we are saved from; the wrath of God. That really is good news!

One follow-up question for you. Having no issues with what you wrote, I’m thinking about THE “good news” versus just any good news in scripture. Also, in agreement with you that the contents of the Gospel must be stuff about what God has done, not man. With those two thoughts in mind, I’m wondering if there isn’t a broader and narrower use of the term gospel. Certainly, the elements of the gospel necessary for salvation are narrower and that’s the primary use (death, burial, and resurrection of Christ). But even with that list, what does His death matter if I don’t know about His life? Meaning, He had to be a perfect sacrifice, or His death couldn’t atone for my sin. So, I include his life in the gospel I tell people about as well. Then in Romans 2:16, Paul seems to also include the final judgment in the Gospel, where God will judge the world by Christ perfectly. That makes sense too as I need to know I’m guilty and condemned before I understand my need for God to save me.

Here’s the real question: although a person would not need to know about the concepts/doctrines of things like sanctification and glorification in order to hear and be saved, are those things not part of the Gospel of Jesus? They are still good things God has done or has promised to do toward mankind – things accomplished through Christ Jesus. I’ve been tempted to think of all things God has done toward us in Christ as part of the wider Gospel (even thinking of the whole list of spiritual blessings we have in Christ listed in Eph 1), even if I still have a narrow gospel message essential for salvation (i.e., the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus). My question has nothing to do with including social or political things with the Gospel. Only things done by God through Christ that are good news for mankind. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Modern churches are rife with misunderstandings of The Gospel. Some churches will say you need to believe “the entire Gospel,” meaning the Gospel plus works or the Gospel plus self improvement or the Gospel plus social and political activism. They will often condem “easy beliveism” and point to additional works as being essential to salvation.

Your clarity here is much appreciated.
