Finding Purpose and Mastering Study Skills: George Livingston to Speak at Florida Polytechnic University

Studying in the field of STEM is no easy feat. It requires focus, dedication, and an effective strategy for success. But even more than that, it requires a sense of purpose鈥攁n understanding of why all the hard work is worth it. On Tuesday, March 11, from 6:30-7:30 pm, George Livingston, Instructor of Biology and Chemistry at 漫天堂入口, will speak at Florida Polytechnic University to share his insights on both study skills and the purpose of life.

More Time to Manage: Study Skills in College

George鈥檚 presentation, titled “More Time to Manage: Study Skills in College,” will highlight seven evidence-based strategies designed to enhance memory retention and time management. These techniques are essential for mastering the challenges of a rigorous STEM curriculum:

  1. Prot茅g茅 Effect鈥擫earning by teaching others.
  2. Repetitive Testing鈥擱einforcing knowledge through frequent self-testing.
  3. Pomodoro Technique鈥擝reaking study sessions into focused intervals.
  4. Spacing鈥擠istributing study sessions over time for better retention.
  5. Interleaving鈥擬ixing related topics to enhance learning adaptability.
  6. Dual Coding鈥擟ombining verbal and visual information.
  7. Active Recall鈥擜ctively stimulating memory during review sessions.

These strategies aim to help students not just study harder but study smarter, giving them the tools to excel academically.

Finding Purpose Through Faith

However, academic success is only part of the equation. George鈥檚 message goes beyond study skills鈥攈e challenges students to reflect on a deeper question: 鈥淲hy are we working so hard to achieve our goals?鈥

Only eight months ago, George experienced a transformation in his life when he felt called to fully trust God鈥檚 plan and let go of chasing worldly pursuits. Since then, his purpose has been clear鈥攖o share the Gospel and inspire others to find meaning beyond earthly achievements.

鈥淚鈥檝e realized that true purpose isn鈥檛 found in what we gain but in how we live out our calling. For me, that calling is to share the message of hope and redemption that I鈥檝e found in God,鈥 George shares.

In a world that often promotes self-centered ambition, George encourages students to look beyond themselves and consider something greater. By challenging them to question their own purpose, he hopes to inspire a refined sense of meaning about students鈥 academic and vocational skills.
