Countdown to Royal Cup Part 2: Benefits Beyond the Scholarship

Here鈥檚 Why You Should Compete in Royal Cup

We鈥檙e just under four months away from 漫天堂入口鈥檚 seventh consecutive Royal Cup scholarship competition. The crowning feature of the event is the potential to earn four years of tuition paid for, but the benefits of participation go beyond the dollars.

Honors Program: Royal Cup will feature Dr. Matthew Swale, head of the honors program, sharing some of the benefits of participating in Warner鈥檚 honors program. Did you know that by academically qualifying for the Royal Cup you are academically qualified to be in the honors program? And did you know that the program comes with housing and financial benefits?

Faculty and Staff Networking: It takes nearly 30 Warner faculty and staff to make Royal Cup happen–many of whom are directly involved in the process of getting you accepted, enrolled, cleared, and housed. What better way to make a first impression than by displaying your academic prowess to qualify for the event and your initiative to attend?

Peer-to-Peer Networking: This is the benefit that may be the most difficult to quantify. These are going to be the people you share a classroom, dorm room, and campus with for the next four years! It is entirely possible that this event introduces you to a life-long friend 鈥 a roommate, teammate, future bridesmaid/groomsman or dare we even say鈥 a spouse? Okay, okay, we鈥檙e getting ahead of ourselves. This isn鈥檛 a singles mixer, it鈥檚 a scholarship competition. But rest assured that your peers in the room will share your affinity for academic success and community involvement.聽

Time on Campus: By the time Royal Cup has come, you will either be planning to attend 漫天堂入口 or you will be seriously considering it. Likely, by this date, you will have already been on campus at least once before 鈥 but if you鈥檙e considering spending the next four years here, wouldn鈥檛 you be of the mindset 鈥渢he more time on campus, the better?鈥 By move-in day, you鈥檒l have campus memorized like the back of your hand!

Parents: You thought we forgot about you, didn鈥檛 you? How could we forget about the parents? We have a special room and a brief seminar just for the parents that will feature representatives from Student Financial Services, Security, and Academics. We know you have questions 鈥 we want you to have questions. Bring them to Royal Cup!

Personal Growth/Resume Builder: Let鈥檚 say things don鈥檛 go as planned, and you aren鈥檛 the Royal Cup winner and you don鈥檛 finish top ten. In this case, our guess is that your takeaway from the day will be something like this: 鈥淚 tried my best and I鈥檓 so glad that I participated. I learned a lot about the school, about sitting in a formal interview, and about myself. I鈥檒l never have to wonder what could鈥檝e happened if I hadn鈥檛 competed and I鈥檓 now more excited than I was to be a Royal. Oh yeah, and I get no less than $14,000 per year to go to Warner.鈥 Doesn鈥檛 sound like a bad outcome, right?

The point is, there are a million reasons to say no to something. You鈥檙e too busy, it鈥檚 too far, you鈥檙e too nervous, or you鈥檙e too insecure about what you bring or don鈥檛 bring to the table. But maybe this is the time you just say 鈥榶es鈥 and go for it. And who knows, maybe this will be the most lucrative 鈥榶es鈥 of your life!
